Description
The Olds Recording Cornet is a classic brass instrument known for its beautiful sound and craftsmanship. It was produced by the F.E. Olds & Sons company, which was renowned for making high-quality brass instruments. The Recording Cornet, in particular, is appreciated for its full, round sound and sweeping curves that enhance its playability and aesthetics. This cornet was produced in 1956 and is in great shape for its age! There are some minor dings and lacquer loss, but the horn is 69 years old! The valves work smoothly, and the instrument is in excellent playing condition! The 1957 Olds brochure touts this instrument as “Unparalled quality and flawless action highlight the RECORDING Cornet and make it the choice of artists who demand the finest. Depth of tone and carrying power are the result of the “Re-O-lay” bell; the valve position has been carried forward slightly allowing for greater comfort in the hand grip around the characteristic recessed middle valve. The Olds effortless trigger tuning mechanism on the third valve slide provides for simple intonation changes on low tones. The artist is assured of unlimited flexibility from the RECORDING Cornet by its maximum of conical tuning and freedom from abrupt air pockets.” This is a great horn for the serious player and/or the serious collector!!
